Day
1

Cusco to the Pre-Inca Ruins, Cloud Forest, and Pillcopata

Your grand expedition on the Manu National Park Reserved Area 6D/5N Bus/Bus tour begins early in the morning with a direct pickup from your Cusco hotel between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Settling into our comfortable private bus, we cross the Andean landscape, making a fascinating stop at the pre-Inca Ninamarca Funerary Towers, or chullpas, positioned high at 3,750 meters above sea level. From there, we proceed to Paucartambo, a beautifully preserved colonial town renowned for its vibrant folklore and historical stone bridge.

Leaving the town behind, we ascend higher through Huancarani to reach the Acjanaco pass. Standing at ,4000 meters above sea level, this mountain gateway marks the official entrance into Manu National Park. From this high ridge, we initiate our spectacular descent through the changing ecological layers of the mysterious cloud forest. This moisture-rich environment is crowded with primitive ferns, towering heliconias, and elegant wild orchids. We take an informative walk into the woods to spot Peru’s national bird, the Andean cock-of-the-rock, engaged in its elaborate courtship displays. We may also see colourful trogons, quetzals, active monkeys, or even the rare spectacled bear—the continent’s sole native bear species. As twilight approaches, we arrive at our classic jungle lodge in Pillcopata (550 meters above sea level), complete with private bathrooms and hot showers for your comfort.

Day
2

Pillcopata to Atalaya Port, River Cruise, and Cocha Otorongo

After a fresh breakfast, we board our bus for a brief 45-minute drive down to the busy river port of Atalaya. The roadside scenery is dotted with local fruit trees, fields of coca, and blooming wild orchids. At the port, we shift our gear into a motorized riverboat designed to handle the swift currents of the Alto Madre de Dios River. During this scenic 6- to 7-hour downriver cruise, you will see an array of wildlife, including kingfishers and herons along the water, as well as imposing vultures like the king vulture and jungle condor soaring above.

We will make a technical stop at Boca Manu (280 meters above sea level) before checking in with park authorities at the Limonal Surveillance Post. Continuing deep into the reserve, you will understand why Manu is universally celebrated for its wildlife density. The riverbanks host sunning side-necked turtles, massive white caimans, and herds of capybaras. By late afternoon, we reach our wilderness lodge (250 meters above sea level), where we occupy twin beds set on raised, roofed platforms. We then hike out to explore the nearby lake and its 30-meter-tall observation tower. From this vantage point, we hope to see families of giant river otters, native reptiles, and varied birds flying over a habitat where animals have never been hunted by man. We spend the night in beds fully enclosed by protective mosquito nets, with guest showers and bathrooms close at hand.

Day
3

Pristine Exploration of Cocha Salvador and Virgin Rainforest Trails

Our third day focuses on the untouched depths of the virgin primary forest. A short 30-minute trip brings us from Cocha Otorongo to the calm waters of Cocha Salvador. Here, we board a stable catamaran and paddle quietly across the oxbow lake. This silent navigation maximizes our chances of seeing giant river otters playing, along with specialized marsh birds such as the agami heron and the colorful sultana cock.

The surrounding canopy is a haven for monkeys; it is highly probable that we will encounter several of the 12 distinct primate species living in this protected sector. Afterward, our expert guide will lead us on a trek through the primary forest trails, explaining the delicate biological systems, medicinal plants, and evolutionary secrets of the Amazon rainforest. In the late afternoon, we return to the security of our lodge to spend another night on our roofed platforms. All beds are equipped with mosquito netting, and clean showers and toilets are fully available. If you choose, you can join an optional night walk to see the active nocturnal insects, spiders, and amphibians that appear after dark.

Day
4

The Salvadorcillo Macaw Clay Lick to Cocha Brasco and Boca Manu

We wake before dawn to visit the spectacular macaw clay lick located inside the Salvadorcillo Ravine. This morning ritual features hundreds of parakeets, parrots, and magnificent macaws arriving at the exposed clay banks to feed on minerals, creating an unforgettable explosion of sound and color.

Following this event, we turn back along the Manu River, keeping our eyes trained on the shores to observe the rich biodiversity as we cruise back toward Boca Manu. Along our path, we will make a special side excursion into Cocha Brasco to watch for resident giant river otters. Our day finishes at a comfortable regional lodge that features regular bathrooms and hot showers for your evening convenience.

Day
5

Boca Manu Upriver to Paititi Lodge

Today, we continue our return voyage, traveling upriver against the current of the Alto Madre de Dios River. As our boat cuts through the waters, you will have another excellent opportunity to photograph unique Amazonian birds and, with a bit of luck, catch glimpses of larger mammals moving along the forest edge.

The journey provides a relaxing pace to appreciate the scale of the jungle. By the afternoon, our boat pulls up to the riverbanks near Paititi Lodge. We check into this welcoming jungle accommodation and settle in for our final evening in the rainforest. The lodge comes well-equipped with private showers and clean toilets for a restful night.

Day
6

Paititi Lodge to Atalaya Port and Return to Cusco

Our final day brings our deep-jungle adventure to a close as we prepare to say goodbye to this mysterious and magical rainforest. We board our riverboat one last time to travel back to the port of Atalaya. Upon arrival, our private overland bus waits to transport us back up into the Andes. The drive climbs through the cloud forest once more, giving us a final look at its rich flora and green canopy.

We will arrive back in the historic city of Cusco between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The bus will drop everyone off near Plaza Regocijo, located a mere half-block from Cusco’s central Plaza de Armas, bringing your unforgettable Manu National Park Reserved Area 6D/5N Bus/Bus tour to a successful conclusion.

Nature, Fun, and Unforgettable Moments in Manu We took the 4-day tour to Manu with my family (there were 5 adults and 2 children), and I want to thank Terra Quechua Peru for making it so easy and special. From the transportation to the meals, everything was coordinated with great care. Every day brought a new surprise: jungle hikes, swimming in crystal-clear rivers, birdwatching, and even a night around the campfire where we shared stories with other travelers. The kids were fascinated by the insects and colorful birds. I never imagined the Peruvian Amazon would be so rich and vibrant. We felt safe at all times; the guides were very responsible and patient. A family experience we’ll always treasure!

Terra Quechua Peru made our family trip to Manu unforgettable We took a 5-day family trip to Manu, and honestly, it exceeded our expectations. From our very first contact with Terra Quechua Peru, they put us at ease with their friendly service and quick responses to all our questions. Plus, compared to other agencies, we thought the prices were very reasonable for everything the tour included. The guides were very patient with the children and always made sure we were all comfortable. We were able to see so many animals, enjoy nature, and completely unwind. The accommodations were better than we expected, and the organization was excellent at all times. You can tell they have experience and truly care about their guests. We would definitely travel with them again.

Perfect family adventure We recommend Terra Quechua Peru. The reservation was straightforward and communication was great from the start. Friends from Ottawa had recommended them, and they were right. Our family joined the 6-day Manu tour and it was unforgettable. The journey from Cusco into the jungle was beautiful, with different landscapes along the way. The kids loved the boat rides and spotting animals along the river. Our guide was patient and very informative, explaining plants and wildlife. Accommodation was simple but comfortable, and meals were always fresh. We felt safe and well taken care of during the entire trip. This was such a special experience for our family. Lots of memories and great photos. Highly recommended.

Manu Park 4 days with Local Trekkers. Besides being good Trekkers we are also lovers of Nature, it’s for that we decided to book again with Local Trekkers Peru to do a trip in the Manu National Park, we booked 4Days and 3Nigths and we had so much fun doing this trip, everything was very well arranged from the pick up at our hotel until return to our same hotel. The guide, food, lodges, bus, everything was very good, our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive with us we learned a lot about the jungle with him, our cook was good always providing us, with very good dishes, our bus driver was very attentive as well he showed us when some bird or animal appeared along the rout before to get our first Lodge, thanks to him we were able to see hundreds of birds included the ¡cock of the rock! The national bird of Peru which was very beautiful, along the river we saw Kapibaras as well also we saw aligators, snakes, macaws. In a afternoon we swim in the river which was cool, the river is very rough but the captain of the boat gave us life jackets to be safer while we swim. If there is some thing observe in this tour it was the long bus trip until you reach of beginning of the park and 8 or 9 hours to come back to Cusco apart of that everything was fine. At the end we would like to recommend Local Trekkers Peru to do the Manu National Park, you won’t Regret.

Terra Quechua Peru took care of everything from the first contact I traveled to Manu with my partner on the 5-day tour, and it was one of the best decisions of our trip to Peru. The agency was quick to respond, very attentive, and impeccably organized. The tour took us from Cusco to the lowland jungle, stopping at spectacular viewpoints, crossing rivers by boat, and exploring the jungle with a local guide who knew absolutely everything about the fauna and flora. We saw monkeys, macaws, tarantulas (yes, up close!), and an impressive number of birds. Sleeping in lodges surrounded by nature was magical, with the sounds of the jungle in the background. I loved disconnecting from the digital world for a few days. Highly recommended for those seeking real adventure in the Amazon.

Manu Reserved Zone with Local Trekkers Peru We traveled as a group of six friends in August, and our 6 days and 5 nights Manu National Park tour with Local Trekkers Peru was one of the most memorable adventures we’ve ever had. Everything was perfectly organized comfortable transport, clean and cozy lodges, and excellent coordination from start to finish. Our guide Nefi was fantastic! His knowledge of the rainforest, wildlife, and local communities was impressive. Thanks to his keen eye, we were lucky enough to spot a jaguar resting by the river a moment none of us will ever forget! He kept us safe, informed, and entertained the entire time. Our chef Paulino was also incredible. Every meal was fresh, tasty, and full of variety. One of our friends is vegetarian, and Paulino made sure to prepare delicious alternatives for him every day we were all amazed by his creativity, especially given the remote locations. The lodges were comfortable, clean, and beautifully surrounded by nature. Falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle was pure magic. This journey into Manu was everything we hoped for and more. Local Trekkers Peru exceeded our expectations with their professionalism, warmth, and genuine respect for nature. We can’t recommend them enough an unforgettable experience from start to finish!

Trip of a lifetime! Thankyou Local Trekkers Peru!! We have just done the 7 day Manu National Park Tour with LOCAL TREKKERS PERU. The tour for us was easily one of our favourite experiences during 6 months in Latin America. I chose the tour company after some internet research, and thought it wise to choose someone who was local and who had many years of experience doing Manu wildlife tours. For my girlfriend, father and me, the tour exceeded our expectations. We were lucky that Nefi our tour guide, as he was one of the friendliest, most knowledgeable, and well organised tour guides that we have met during our travels. He’s not only a birding expert, but incredible at spotting the park’s many mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects, including the rarest species, and his knowledge of their calls and behaviour seemed endless. His understanding of the flora seemed likewise. Spending many hours with these guys exploring the jungle was really great fun. We were lucky enough to see a big group of giant otters, 7 species of monkeys, capybaras, caiman, various snakes and frogs, more than 70 bird species, along with many cool insects, trees, flowers, fruits and seeds. We thought the Macaw lick was definitely worth the money, as we saw perhaps 100 on the day as well as many other parrots. The tapir lick was a fun addition, though we didn’t see any (we figure we’d already been very lucky). The food, transport and accommodation were excellent, and the people making all of this happen were always friendly and efficient. With only three of us, we were looked after exceedingly well, and the price was great value from our point of view. It was also easy to organise from a distance, as Alberto correspondance, was thorough and prompt. We would highly recommend this tour, and in particular this tour company Local Trekkers Peru.

Lifetime Experience with Local Trekkers. We would like to highly recommend Local Trekkers Peru to book any trekking or travel trips. We booked our trip to the Manu National Park 7D/6N and we think it would not have been better with another company, they organized our trip exactly as we wanted. From the moment we contacted Alberto The Manager by email he was efficient, friendly and organised, we felt confident about him. Upon our arrival in Cusco he met us at hotel and spent time going over our plans for our 6 days trip to the jungle of Manu, he emailed an itinerary and gave us a map. Our guide named Nefi who was fantastic, very knowledgable about wildlife and flora and fauna and great with our two children. We saw many different animals among them we saw, monkeys, turtles, snakes, kapibaras, aligators, giant river otters, an so on the only one we missed was the hidden Jaguar maybe the next time. Also in an afternoon we had the opportunity to swim in the river which was very relaxing and fun at the same time. Our Cook for the trip, Paulino were also superb and we could not fault the trip in any way. It was perfect. The food that these guys provided us amazing, a lot, hygienic, fresh, with a good taste, always very well decorated and enough for everyone was the best food we tried before in Peru. We spent 2 nights at casa matsiguenka where we learned a lot from this tribe, their customs, dances, dress and even they taught us to use the bow and arrow, this experience was Amazing my children had so much fun on this trip. With Local Trekkers Peru everything was perfect organized from start to finish, so if you are thinking to have a lifetime experience don’t hesitate to book with this company they always provide you the best.
